USIU Soccer Team Signs 2 Hilltop Players

SAN DIEGO — Two members of Hilltop High School’s San Diego Section 2-A soccer champions were among the signings announced by United States International University.
New USIU soccer coach Mike Hovenic announced the signings of goalie Oscar Rodriguez, a first-team all-San Diego Section selection, and Todd Killalea, an all-Metro League defender. In addition to the Hilltop graduates, USIU signed Edward Oliver, a defender from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Kevin Robinson, a former Marian High and Grossmont College standout, leads a list of eight signings by the USIU baseball team. Robinson, an all-Pacific Coast Conference outfield selection, batted .395 with four home runs and 33 RBIs.
Other local players signed included outfielder John Ronis, a graduate of Bonita Vista High and Grossmont College, and pitcher Noel Bishop, a graduate of Santana High and Grossmont.
The USIU hockey team signed three defensemen. Jim Plankers, from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and Mike McGrath, from the University of Wisconsin, will be transferring to USIU next season and will be eligible immediately. Matt Shaw of Renton, Wash., is the third recruit.
