SEOUL, South Korea — At least 38 people died and 12 were missing and feared dead after four days of heavy rain in South Korea, the Interior Ministry said Monday.
More than 3,000 people were made homeless by landslides or floods, which inundated large areas of crops, damaged irrigation works and cut road and railway links. Property damage was estimated at more than $1 million.
Worst hit was the southeast city of Pusan, where rescuers were still digging through debris for 12 missing people after recovering 26 bodies from a landslide that buried about 30 houses on Friday. In other southern regions, about a dozen people were crushed by landslides or drowned in swollen rivers.
