SHOOTING THE MIDDLE EAST

As women writers struggling not only for rare employment opportunities but for the respect of our peers, we were understandably dismayed by writer Joan Borsten’s article on the filming of “Jewel of the Nile” (“Romancing the Sands,” June 23), in which screenwriter Diane Thomas was identified as “the former actress/waitress.”
How does that have any bearing on Thomas and her writing abilities? And why should her previous jobs have any relevance at all in this story? Director Lewis Teague was not identified as a “former” anything, nor were writers Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal.
Shame on you, Joan Borsten.
