Poway to Meet Helix in 3-A Conference Soccer Semifinal

SAN DIEGO — The No. 2-seeded Poway High School boys soccer team (21-1-1) will continue its quest for the San Diego Section 3-A Conference title when they play Helix in a semifinal game at 7 o’clock tonight at Mount Miguel High.
Poway beat Point Loma in the first round of the playoffs, 5-1. Midfielder Steve Black led the way with one goal and three assists. Helix (16-5-2) upset No. 3 seeded Mira Mesa, 2-1, in the first round.
The winner of tonight’s game will play the winner of the Granite Hills vs. Torrey Pines game, which will be played Wednesday at 7 p.m. at San Diego High.
Granite Hills (22-0-0), the top-seeded 3-A team, beat Mira Vista, 6-0, in the first round. Torrey Pines (14-4-1) beat Bonita Vista, 3-1.
Bishop’s (17-3-1), which upset top-seeded University City, 2-1, last Friday, will play Hilltop (11-3-2) at 7 o’clock tonight in a 2-A Conference semifinal game at San Diego High. Hilltop shutout Saint Augustine, 1-0, last Friday to advance to the semifinals.
No. 2-seeded Chula Vista (15-2-1) will play Ramona (17-4-2) Wednesday night at 7 at Mount Miguel High. Chula Vista defeated San Diego last Friday, 5-0, as Arthur Garcia scored three goals. Pablo Carmona scored four goals to lead Ramona over Kearny, 7-0.
In 3-A girls soccer semifinals, top-seeded Bonita Vista (25-1-1) will play Vista (13-5-7) at Mira Mesa High today at 5 p.m. No. 2-seeded Point Loma (12-3-5) will play the No. 3 seed, Torrey Pines (17-3-5), at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at San Diego High.
In 2-A girls semifinal games, top-seeded Mission Bay (21-3) will play University (13-4) today at 5 p.m at San Diego High.
