More than 12,000 square feet of new cement sidewalk is scheduled to be constructed here in the next two months.
In addition, the curbs of 30 existing sidewalks will be modified to make them accessible to wheelchairs. The new sidewalks also will include curbs with wheelchair ramps.
The project will cost $40,450. The City Council recently approved the project and awarded the contract to Josip Kovac Construction Co. of Huntington Beach. Work is expected to start around the end of the month, said Joseph Wang, city engineer and director of public works.
The sidewalks and wheelchair ramps will be installed in six residential areas that do not now have sidewalks and along Imperial Highway.
