GM announced plans to sell its South Gate plant.

General Motors officials told city officials that they plan to sell the plant on Tweedy Boulevard that has been closed for nearly three years. In a meeting at City Hall, GM officials said the plant was surplus, and after it is appraised within 60 days, the 49-year-old facility will be put up for sale, said Judith Merriott, a GM spokeswoman in Los Angeles. South Gate Mayor Herb Cranton said he was “disappointed” with the decision.
