Eastern reached an accord with its machinists.

The tentative contract agreement with the machinists union is another step toward forging a new financial plan for the ailing Miami-based carrier. The International Assn. of Machinists is Eastern Airline’s largest union, representing about 12,000 ground workers. Earlier Friday, a flight attendants’ union agreed to a package of concessions that one union leader said would help “mend” the financially troubled carrier.
