Lawyer Jailed for Aiding Inmate’s Escape Is Freed

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Mary Evans, the attorney who fell in love with a convict killer and helped him escape, was paroled from a work release center Monday after serving 10 months of a three-year sentence.
Evans, 28, left the administration building at the Chattanooga Community Services Center with her father and mother. She declined to answer questions from reporters. Evans, who was disbarred, pleaded guilty to aiding the March, 1983, escape of William Timothy Kirk from the Brushy Mountain State prison.
