Fireworks Issue Rekindled

We won’t send up skyrockets, but the news that the Anaheim City Council once again has agreed to consider a ballot measure proposed by Councilwoman Miriam Kaywood to ban fireworks is worth some kind of special notice.
After a baby burned to death about three years ago in a fire started by a firecracker, 7,000 residents signed a petition asking the council to ban fireworks sales. The ban was never enacted.
Last year the council twice refused to put such a measure on the ballot.
This year it should.
The council cannot continue to ignore safety considerations--nor the will of 70% of the voters, who responded to a recent city survey by saying they wanted fireworks outlawed.
