The Southern Section Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, and the Marmonte League will submit a proposal that would allow any league with nine or 10 teams to have five playoff spots. There is only one league that has 10 schools _ the Marmonte League in football. Currently, the Marmonte is allowed four playoff spots.

Simi Valley Athletic Director Matt La Belle will present the proposal, calling it a ‘remedy for what unjustly happened to us’ last October when the council voted to move Ventura St. Bonaventure and Westlake Village Oaks Christian into the Marmonte League for football only beginning this fall, creating a 10-team league.

There could be some angry public schools if Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure take two of those four playoff spots. The other schools that make up the league are public schools _ Westlake, Agoura, Royal, Simi Valley, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Calabasas and Thousand Oaks.

The council is made up of league representatives throughout the Southern Section. La Belle’s proposal is a first reading and would not take effect until the 2011 football season.
