I don’t think there’s a more versatile, more unique high school basketball player in Southern California than Trevor Wiseman, a 6-foot-8 senior point guard at Santa Clarita Golden Valley.
Wiseman showed Tuesday night what happens when he plays at his best, scoring 28 points, getting nine assists, four steals and six rebounds in a 75-68 Foothill League victory over Valencia.
The Grizzlies (15-4, 2-1) shut down Valencia’s high-scoring Lonnie Jackson, who came in averaging 25 points. They used a box-and-one defense, along with physical play, to limit Jackson to 13 points. He fouled out with just over four minutes left in the game. Valencia dropped to 15-3 and 2-1.
But this was a game in which Wiseman’s skills were on display. Whether making passes or making free throws, he was having an impact. His size, dribbling ability and athleticism puts the pressure on opponents and creates matchup problems.
‘He’s so multi-faceted,’ Golden Valley Coach Chris Printz said.
The Grizzlies also got 17 points from Khatari Price.
