It’s cold and raining. But it could be worse

A steady drizzle began falling about half an hour before Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia got the American League Championship Series started with a first-pitch breaking ball to Angels’ leadoff hitter Chone Figgins. But the conditions, bad as they are for baseball, are much better than had been forecast.
The temperature at game time is 45 with a wind chill that makes it feel at least 15 degrees colder. In fact, it’s so cold both teams agreed to forego the traditional introductions of both rosters to keep the players warm in the dugouts for as long as possible.
The House That Derek Jeter Built -- and that Alex Rodriguez could probably pay the mortgage on -- isn’t quite full in the top of the first, with about a third of the expensive seats behind the dugouts empty.
